Should I Postpone My Wedding Due to Covid-19?
With states across the country being given shelter in place orders with recommendations for social distancing due to the pandemic Covid-19, couples are going to have to rethink their wedding plans.
In some cases, the decision to postpone has been made for you, with gatherings of any number made illegal. Does that mean you have to wait for mother nature to run its course before you and your significant other can get married?
Not necessarily. Though full-scale weddings may be out of the question for now, getting married with an intimate gathering of immediate family members could be feasible. NOTE: you should take great care to ensure that even in these circumstances social distancing should be followed to ensure that immunocompromised and elderly family members are not at risk of contracting coronavirus.
Getting legally married early has benefits, not the least of which is getting access to your partner’s health insurance if you are not adequately covered. It might also be a morale boost to you and your family, as a bit of sunshine in these dark times never goes amiss.
This is not to say you can’t have that dream wedding you always imagined. Renewing your vows after the virus has died down would be a great way to celebrate this moment of your life with all of those who mean the most to you.
When this craziness is over, break those wedding planning books back out, reach out to your dream venue, and plan the event you’ve always wanted - because in the end, a wedding isn’t just about the legal document. It’s about sharing your life with your partner, and that is a celebration that has no arbitrary time limit.
Life is crazy. Weddings don’t always go the way you’ve planned, even in the best of circumstances. Let the stress of cancelled plans roll off your back if you can and make the choice that makes sense for you and your loved ones.
In sickness and in health.
Stay safe, everyone.
